The benefit that the terrestrial organism gets of obtaining O2 is described below :

First advantage

In case of the terrestrial organisms, they take in oxygen from atmosphere. In atmosphere, large amount of oxygen is present.

But the aquatic organisms gets oxygen which remains dissolved in the water. But the amount of oxygen present there is very less when compared to atmosphere.

Second advantage

Because of low oxygen in water systems, the aquatic animals have to breathe faster to take in more O2 and thus spends more energy.

But there is no need for the terrestrial organisms to breathe faster and hence does not spend much energy.

A terrestrial organism has an advantage over aquatic organisms with regard to 'obtaining oxygen for 'respiration', as terrestrial organisms are surrounded by an oxygen-rich environment and can take any form and amount of oxygen for their respiration needs.

Explanation:

  • Aquatic organisms live in water and respire there and take oxygen from water in the form of dissolved oxygen.
  • In comparison to the atmosphere, the amount of dissolved oxygen in water is quite limited.
  • This is where a terrestrial organism experiences an advantage over their aquatic counterparts.
  • The former is surrounded by an atmosphere that is full of oxygen and can take any amount of oxygen but that is not the case for the aquatic organisms.
