Oxygen dissolved in air is much more compared to dissolved oxygen in water. Since less oxygen is dissolved in water aquatic animals have a higher breathing rate. This is necessary to kewp their metabolism functioning. Of their breathing rate increases then the energy needed too increases.

Whereas, in air the oxygen present is much more and diffuses easily. Due to this terrestrial animals doesn't need more of energy to spend of breathing rate. Low breathing rate nullifies the need of oxygen in land animals comapred to water animals.

Therefore is would say it is a disadvantage over land animals.

Aquatic organisms use oxygen dissolved in surrounding water . Since air dissolved in water has fairly low concentration of oxygen , the aquatic organisms have much faster rate of breathing .

Terrestrial organisms take oxygen from
