Fungi and bacteria, like plant cell, have cell wall. When they are in dilute external medium, due to osmosis water goes in and the cell expand. But as the cell wall is rigid it does not expand, and applies an opposite force to the force applied by the expanding cell and thus prevents them from bursting.
