Essentials of a chemical equation are :-

(1) It must represent a true chemical changes.

(2) All the reactants and the products of the chemical reaction must be in the form of their respective chemical formulae / symbols.

(3) The total number of atoms of all the elements must be same in both sides.

(4)It must be molecular.

For example :-

The following chemical equation

Pt + 4HCl ----->< PtCl4 + 2H2.

a)It should contain rectants and products.

b)It should be balanced i.e. the total number of atoms on both sides of the equation must be equal

c)It should be molecular i.e. the elementary gases like hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen etc must be represented in molecular form as H2, O2, N2 etc. Information conveyed by a chemical equation.
