Resources that come from non-living, non-organic material are called Abiotic resources.

Explanation:

  • Land, fresh water, air, rare earth metals and heavy metals ores, such as, gold, iron, copper, silver, etc. are example of abiotic resources. These sources are usually found in lithosphere, atmosphere, and hydrosphere.
  • The three basic characterisation of abiotic resources are climate, edaphic and social. Unlike biotic resource, abiotic resources do not depend on their biotic component for its survival. However, they are unable to adapt according to the change in environment.
