the substances which taste sour and have H+ ions in aqueous solution are acids whereas the substances which taste bitter and have OH-ions in aqueous solution are bases

Acids: These are sour to taste and changes the blue litmus paper to red.They are reactive and hence they contain H^+ ions.When they react with Metals produces H2 gas.
Bases:These are bitter to taste and turns the red litmus to blue when they are tested.They contain OH^- ions.When they react with Metals they H2 gas and water.
