What are acids?

Answer:-

The word acid comes from the latin word 'Acidus' which means sour.

Some examples of acids - Acetic acid in vinegar, malic acid in Apple, lactic acid in Curd etc.

Extra Information:-

Acids are classified on the basis of their source. They are of the following types:-

1. Natural occurring acids or organic acids

The acids which are derived from animal and plant materials are called natural occurring acids or organic acids. Mineral acids are strong acids.

For example:- Lactic acid, Acetic acid, Citric acid and Tartaric acid.

2. Minerals or laboratory acids

Acids which are derived from minerals or chemicals are called mineral acids.

For example:- Sulphuric acid, Nitric acid, and Hydrochloric acid.
