when an object exerts a force on another object this force is called action force

in return the latter also includes an equal and opposite forces on the first object this is called reaction force

following example demonstrate action and reaction forces

a. if a person collides with another person of similar build then they both are equally hurt because they exert equal force on each other

b. if the water ooze out of a sprinkler in a garden with large pores then it exerts equal reaction force on the sprinkler causing it to rotate
