Adaptation is the process of change by which an organism becomes better suited to live in its environment.

The adaptations found in the desert are:

Cactus

  1. Cacti  have spines which replace leaves. These spines minimize the surface area of the leaves reducing water lost through transpiration
  2. The stem has a thick coating which helps in retaining more water.
  3. The stem is fleshy and has more water capacity

Camel

  1. Camels have long eyelashes
  2. They store fat in the hump
  3. They have thick lips to eat prickly leaves
  4. Camels feet are wide so they don't sink in the soil
  5. Their legs are long to keep their body cool from the earth's heat

Answer:

the process of change by which an organism or species becomes better suited to its environment

adaptation has three related meanings. Firstly, it is the dynamic evolutionary process that fits organisms to their environment, enhancing their evolutionary fitness. Secondly, it is a state reached by the population during that process.

Plants found in deserts are well adapted to cope with harsh desert conditions such as water scarcity and scorching heat. Plants have an extensive root system to tap underground water. They bear thick cuticles and sunken stomata on the surface of their leaves to reduce transpiration.
