Leaves lose water mainly through transpiration. To prevent excess transpiration
the plant cells have a layer of cells called epidermis with collection of a waxy substance on top which prevents the loss of water. The cuticle serves a bigger role by preventing parasitic attack and more. The epidermis is also the place where stomata exists.
