Hey!!!

●Though the first two years syllabi are almost same for both, from third year it differs completely. Automobile engineering students study in depth about automobiles. They learn separate subjects on, to name a few
1 Engines
2 Chassis
3 Fuels and lubricants
4 Alternative fuels
5 Automobile pollution and control
6 Off road vehicles
7 Automobile electronics
8 Vehicle management systems
9 Vehicle maintenance.

This is covered in a single subject for mechanical engineering students

Automobile students dismantle and assemble engines, test fuels, perform emission testing, test batteries, etc in laboratory classes. Mechanical engineering students are not taught most of these as it is not in curriculumWhile mechanical engineering is wider and general in nature, automobile engineering is specific area.Upper hand in placement, since most automobile major companies interview are based on automobiles, automobile engineering students can easily get through.

The above points are purely based on my experience. It may differ from person to person.
