Dear Student,
# Amphoteric oxide -
- An oxide which reacts with both acid and base to produce salt and water is called amphoteric oxide.
- They show dual behaviour with water.
- For example, aluminium oxide (Al2O3), zinc oxide (ZnO), lead oxide (PbO2), etc.
# Examples of amphoteric oxides -
(1) Lead oxide (PbO2) -
- PbO2 + 2HCl --> PbCl2 + H2O
- PbO2 + 2NaOH --> Na2PbO3 + H2O
(2) Aluminum oxide -
- Al2O3 + 6HCl --> 2AlCl3 + 3H2O
- Al2O3 + 2NaOH --> 2NaAlO2 + H2O
Thanks dear. Hope this helps you..
