Answer:
Cations (positively-charged ions) and anions (negatively-charged ions) are formed when a metal loses electrons, and a nonmetal gains those electrons. The electrostatic attraction between the positives and negatives brings the particles together and creates an ionic compound, such as sodium chloride.
hope it will help u if yes then like this answer....

Answer:
THE POSITIVELY CHARGED IONS ARE CATIONS .
THE NEGATIVELY CHARGED IONS ARE ANIONS .
WHEN METALS LOSE ELECTRON THEY BECOME CATIONS.
WHEN NON METALS GAINS ELECTRON THEY BECOME ANIONS.
EXPLANATION -
- when any substance loose electron they form cations .
- ex- sodium has 1 electron in its outermost shell . it donates this electron and form Na+ . it loses this to become more stable and to complete its octet .by losing 1 electron sodium gets 1 unit positive charge and become Na+.
- this can be explained as follows
- in one atom of sodium there are 11 protons and 11 electrons. hence the charge is nuetral . now when Sodium loses 1 electron there are 10 electron in it atom and there are 11 protons in it's nucleus and neutron has no change so protons and electrons cancel out each other . as there are 10 electron and 11 protons the 10 electron and 10 protons cancel out each other so 1 PROTON HAS BEEN LEFT , SO SODIUM ATOM ACQUIRE 1 UNIT POSITIVE CHARGE AND FORMS A CATION OR POSITIVELY CHARGED IONS.
