ANNEALING AND EXTENSION IN BIOTECHNOLOGY: DEFINITION, CONCEPT AND FUNCTION.
- Annealing and extension in biotechnology are one of three steps of PCR(polymerise chain reaction) which is performed in order to make copies of a specific part of DNA.
- In annealing, the temperature is lowered to (55⁰-65⁰c ) so that DNA primers can bind to the single-stranded template DNA.
- In extension, the temperature is increased to 75⁰c so that a special enzyme called taq polymerase can extend the primers forming new strands of DNA.
