Answer:

Basically, antibiotics are chemical substances known to kill mostly bacteria.

They are produced by taking a weakened form of a bacteria and introducing into the body. E.g.Penicilin and amoxicillin.

The Antibiotics are kind of drugs which helps in curing diseases. Basically, they are made from bacteria and fungi. There are different types of antibiotics and they attack the microbes by stopping their different processes.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Best Example is Penicillin which stops the production of compound which is needed by organism for the growth of cell wall. This prevents the cell wall from expanding when rest parts are growing. And, this leads to the bursting of cell and the microorganisms dies.

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Antibiotics helps in preventing the microbes to attack for further harm to the host body by blocking the various metabolic activities or also stops the growth of cells.

Examples:

  • Penicillin
  • Tetracycline
  • Streptomycin

⚠️ But, Antibiotics do not work on viruses because viruses are different from other pathogens. The various reasons that why this phenomenon is observed are:

  • Firstly Viruses are not made up of cells.
  • It is a just a small particle with genetic material(DNA or RNA)bounded by a protein coat.
  • They don't have cellular organisation like they lack cell organelles, hence no biochemical reactions.
  • They are inactive outside the host. They use cellular resources from the host for their activities and reproduction.

Hence, Antibiotics are not so effective upon them. Because they target on biochemical activities of pathogens which the viruses lacks of.
