Antegin presenting cells known as APCs can simply be defined as the cells that engulf antigens and present fragments to the T cells.

  • There are three types of entigen presenting cells in the human body, namely - Macrophages, Dendritic cells and B-cells.

  • Macrophages are usually found in a resting states.

  • Dendritic cells are characterised by their long cytoplasmic process.

  • " Steinman " was awarded the Nobel prize in the year 2011 for his discovery of the dendritic cell and it's role in adaptive immunity.

  • B-cells are also known as plasma cells.

  • Antibodies already produced by the dascendants of B-cells.

An antigen-presenting cell (APC) or accessory cell is a cell that displays antigen complexed with major histocompatibility complexes (MHCs) on their surfaces; this process is known as antigen presentation. T cells may recognize these complexes using their T cell receptors (TCRs). APCs process antigens and present them to T-cells.
