In plant development: Nutritional dependence of the embryo. Theantipodal cells of the female gametophyte sometimes acquire glandular properties, as may cells of the nucellus surrounding the embryo sac.

Answer: Antipodal cells are present at the chalazal end . Antipodals are nutritive in function; it nourishes the embryo sac. Substances produced by the antipodals helps in the growth and development of the endosperm.
