what are asteroids? where are they situated?
Answers
Answer:
Asteroids are small objects that orbit around the sun. They are made up of rocks. They are much smaller than planets, even though they orbit the sun.
Most of the asteroids in our solar system are found in the Main Asteroid belt - a region between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter.
Asteroids are minor planets, especially of the inner Solar System. Larger asteroids have also been called planetoids. These terms have historically been applied to any astronomical object orbiting the Sun that did not resolve into a disc in a telescope and was not observed to have characteristics of an active comet such as a tail.
It is thought that planetesimals in the asteroid belt evolved much like the rest of the solar nebula until Jupiter neared its current mass, at which point excitation from orbital resonances with Jupiter ejected over 99% of planetesimals
