Explanation:

An axon or nerve fiber is a long, slender projection of a nerve cell, or neuron, in vertebrates, that typically conducts electrical impulses known as action potentials away from the nerve cell body. The function of the axon is to transmit information to different neurons, muscles, and glands. In certain sensory neurons , such as those for touch and warmth, the axons are called afferent nerve fibers and the electrical impulse travels along these from the periphery to the cell body, and from the cell body to the spinal cord along another branch of the same axon.

Axons are the primary transmission lines of the nervous system, and as bundles they form nerves. Some axons can extend up to one meter or more while others extend as little as one millimeter. The longest axons in the human body are those of the sciatic nerve, which run from the base of the spinal cord to the big toe of each foot.

\huge\bf{Answer :}

Each neuron is composed of three parts:

  1. Cyton or Cell Body
  2. Dendrites
  3. Axon

Axon:

  • This is a tail-like structure coming out of cyton.

  • The axon is covered with an insulating layer called the myelin sheath.

  • The end of the axon has fine branches and each branch ends in a knob-like structure called a synaptic knob.

  • Synaptic vesicles are present in the synaptic knob.

  • Neurotransmitters are present in synaptic vesicles.

  • Neurotransmitters help in the transmission of neural stimuli.

  • Axon sends signals to another neuron or the target organ or tissue.

  • The gap between the axon of one neuron the and dendrites of another neuron is called a synapse.

  • Neurotransmitters are found at the synapse.
