Azeotropic mixtures are :-
1) binary mixtures , means they contains one solute and one solvent
2) the components are always present in a given fixed amount and not in random
3) as the components are present in the given fixed amount so their boiling points become equal
4) we cannot separate the components of an azeotropic mixture through the process of fractional distillation.....
5) in an azeotropic mixture the Mole fraction of any component in vapour is always equal to its Mole fraction in liquid....

The mixture which boils at constant temperature is called azeotropic mixture. It arise due to large deviations from raoult's law.

There are two types of azeotropes called maximum boiling azeotrope(due to large negative deviations) ex- 95.5 by volume of ethanol solution and minimum boiling azeotrope (due to large positive deviations) ex - A solution of 68% nitric acid and 32% water by mass.

  • In azeotropes the liquid and vapour have the same composition.

  • These are basically have constant.
