Boron is an element of group 13 of the long form of periodic table. It doesn't occur in free state in the nature. It mainly occurs as borates and borax.

Boron has three electron in the outer shell which it can share with other atom. Hence in it's compound only 6 electrons are present around. i.e. incomplete octet. Thus boron forms electron deficient compound.
