Bouyant force refers to the upthrust provided by a fluid when a substance is totally or partially immersed in it.

It is given by,

 F = - \rho g V , where,

  1. F = Bouyant force's magnitude,
  2. ρ = Density of fluid,
  3. V = Volume of fluid,
  4. g = Acceleration due to gravity.

More:-

  • Bouyant force is similar to Air resistance.
  • The idea of Bouyant force was provided by Archimedes. You can also see the story behind this discovery.

Tricky short question to solve:-

Consider a situation when a man holds a fish in one hand and a bucket (filled with water) in another hand. If he puts the into the bucket, can he observe any change in weight? If yes, he would feel less weight or more?
