Canal rays also called anode rays are positively charged rays which arise from anode and move towards cathode in a specially designed discharge tube when high voltage is applied across the electrodes.
Characteristics of Anode rays ---->
1) These rays get deflected by electric and magnetic field in the direction opposite to the cathode rays.
2) These rays contain protons.
3) The e/m ratio for the particles are not same for all gases in the discharge tube.
4) The nature of the rays depend upon the nature of gas inside the discharge tube.
