The beam of rays which travel in a direction away from anode towards cathode when a gas taken in a discharge tube is subjected to the action of high voltage under low pressure are known as canal rays. It is also called anode rays. It was discovered by E. Goldstein in 1886.

Answer:

Canal rays: These are also known as anode rays which are made up of positively charged material particles known as protons. They are called as canal/anode rays because they seem to be coming from a perforated anode used in a discharge tube experiment

An anode ray (also positive ray or canal ray) is a beam of positive ions that are created by certain types of gas-discharge tubes. They were first observed in Crookes tubes during experiments by the German scientist Eugen Goldstein, in 1886. Later work on anode rays by Wilhelm Wien and J. J. Thomson led to the development of mass spectrometry
