what are canal rays

if an atom contains one electron and one proton will it carry any charge or not

on the basis of Thomson's model of atom explain how the atom is neutral as a whole

on the basis of Rutherford model of an atom which subatomic particle is present in the nucleus of an atom

what do you think would be the observation if a particle scattering experiment is carried out using a foil of a metal or other than gold

a) Canal rays or anode rays are streams of positively charged particle which move towards the negative electrode in a discharge tube which high voltage electricity is passed through a gas at very low pressure taken in the discharge tube .

b) No, the atom will not carry any electric charge this is because the electron has one unit negative charge whereas a Proton has an equal and opposite 1 unit positive charge due to which the net charge on the atom is zero .

c) According to Thomson's model of an atom consists of a sphere of positive charge with negatively charged electrons embedded in it like the seeds in a watermelon . the total negative charge of electron is equal to the positive charge of the spear b is equal and opposite charges balance Each Other due to which an atom becomes electrically neutral as a whole .

d) Rutherford Model say that an atom has positively charged nuclear show the subatomic particles present in the nucleus of an atom is proton (which carries positive charge ).

e) the observation if the A particle scattering experiment is carried out using a foil oil of a metal or other than gold is -

  • if the foil of a heavy metal like Platinum (having a very heavy nucleus) is used in the observation in the A particle scattering experiment would be the same as that in the gold foil experiment .
  • if however the fall of a light metal like Lithium( having a very light nucleus) is used in the fast-moving heavy A particle may even post the light nuclear aside and may not be deflected back .
