Catalytic promoters are substances which increases the efficiency of catalysts to increase the rate of reaction.
For example, Molybdenum acts as Promoter in the reaction of Haber's Process to prepare ammonia gas.

Catalytic poisons are those substances which decreases the efficiency of catalyst.
Example Arsenic(III)oxide poisons platinum in contact process.
