Cells can be simply defined as :-

Cells are the structural, functional and basic unit of life.

→Cell was discovered by Robert Hooke in the dead cork cells by a primitive microscope.

→He wrote about cells in his book 'Micrographia'

Mathias Schleiden (German Botanist) and Theodore Schwann (British Zoologist) proposed the cell theory in which they said, "All animals and plants are made up of cells."

Rudolf Virchow extended the cell theory proposing that "All cells are made up from pre-existing cells"

→Cells are of two types :- Prokaryotic cells and Eukaryotic cells.
