  • The term 'Centrosome' was coined by boveri in 1881

  • It is found in cytoplasm near the nucleus in animal cell and certain lower plants, however, it is absent in seed plants, prokaryotes and amoeba.

  • The radiating structure comprises, astral -rays, the centrosphere and two small bodies called diplosomes.

  • The wall of each centriole has nine triplets of microtubules arranged in the circle.
