Characteristics of living

things are :

• Living things are made up of cell.

•Living things grow.

• Living things need food and water.

•Living things respire

• Responds to stimuli

Detailed Explaination

1. Living things are made

up of cell.

All living things are made up of cells. A cell is the basic unit of life. it is a structural and functional unit of plant as well as animals. cell are so small that we cannot see them with our nacked eyes. we need a microscope to see them.

2. living things grow.

you must have seen a small sapling growing into a plant. growth of a baby, to a child, than to an adult, also show the characteristics of growth in Living Organism. however animals do not grow after a particular age, plants continue to grow throughout their life.

3. living things need food

and water.

All living things need food and water for growth. the mode of taking food varies from one group of living organism to another. green plants synthesise their own food by using carbon dioxide and water, in the presence of Sunlight and chlorophyll, by the process of photosynthesis.

4.Living things respire.

it is an important characteristic of living things. in animals including human beings the process of respiration takes place throughout their life. plants also respire. they break down the food prepared during photosynthesis with the help of oxygen that they breath in, to release energy. Like animals plants also give out carbon dioxide in this process.

5. Responds to stimuli

all living organism respond to different stimuli, such as touch, light, heat and sound. Animals, like earthworm move away from light and saline media. plants also respond to different stimuli. the tip of the shoot system tends to move towards light. the dropping of a leaf of a Touch Me Not plant is a response to the touch stimulus.
