Chromosomes are thread-like structures located inside the nucleus of animal and plant cells. Each chromosome is made of protein and a single molecule of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). Passed from parents to offspring, DNA contains the specific instructions that make each type of living creature unique.

During the time of cell division the Chromatin reticulum present in the nucleus of a cell condensation leads to the formation of chromosomes consisting of two identical sister chromatids.  Chromosomes are actually  deoxyribonucleic acid molecules with part or all of the genetic material of an organism.

so the chromosomes are present in the nucleus of a cell and it contains the DNA of that particular organism therefore it helps in transfering parental genes to their offsprings
