__________

have you been thinking what actually chromosome is?
i am writing this answer to help you out.

=> chromosomes are required for passing genetic information from one generation to another.

=> these are thread like structures and are found in nucleus of cell. ( nucleus is basically the brain of a cell which controls many activities. )

=> they are composed of proteins and nucleic materials such as DNA and RNA.

both DNA and RNA are nucleic acids.

DNA=> deoxyribonucleic acid
RNA=> ribonucleic acid.

=> well DNA is folded up or coiled many times around some special proteins called histones to form the chromosome.

=> now they may have different structures. The structures depend on the place where centromere is present ( the constriction ). see the second picture+ 3rd picture.

=> now, two arms are formed. the shorter ones are called p arms and longer ones are called q arms.

=> sometimes another constriction may be seen on a chromosome other than centromere which is known satellite.
