Chromosomes are thread-like structures made of DNA found in the nucleus.

Chromosomes are made up of chromatin, which contains a single molecule of DNA

Each chromosome contains hundreds and thousands of genes

They are not visible in an active nucleus but are seen during cell division.(mitosis and miosis)

Each species have a different set of chromosomes

For Eg:-

Humans- 46 chromosomes in 23 pairs

Dog – 78 chromosomes in 39 pairs

We get 23 chromosomes from our father and 23 from our mother, which makes 46 chromosomes.

All chromosomes are not exactly like one other.

The main function of chromosomes is to carry the genetic material from one generation to another

Chromosomes protect the DNA from getting tangled and damaged
