Clause: Any combination of words which contains a subject, a predicate and a finite verb is called a clause.

Eg: The child has a toy which is made of metal.

here "which is made of metal" is a clause.

Adverb clause: A dependent clause which performs the function of an adverb in a sentence is called an an adverb clause.

Eg: She returned home as it became dark.

here "as it became dark is an adverb clause.

Noun clause: A clause which performs the function a noun in a sentence in a sentence is called a noun clause.

Eg: My mother does not know why the maid is absent today.

here "why the maid is absent today" is the noun clause.

Adjective clause: A clause which performs the function of an adjective in a sentence is called an adjective clause.

Eg: The mobile phone with a blue cover is mine.

here "with a blue cover" is the adjective clause.
