Animals show the following characteristics:

  • The animals are multicellular eukaryotes.

  • Animal cell lacks a cell wall.

  • They show heterotrophic mode of nutrition.

  • Most of them are capable of locomotion or body movements, however some are sedentary (eg - sponges).

  • They possess nervous system and most of the animals have specialized sense organs for co-ordination of different systems.

  • Reproduction is mainly sexual by the formation of gametes.
