Compounds are molecules which are formed by the combination of atoms from different elements.

Any two compounds from our surroundings are water( H2O) and Sodium Chloride ( NaCl).

  • Water is a molecule formed by the combination of two atoms of hydrogen and one atom of oxygen.
  • Sodium chloride is formed by the combination of one atom of sodium and one atom of chlorine.

  • Compounds can be either ionic( NaCl) or covalent in nature( H2O).
  • Ionic compounds are formed between a metal and a non-metal whereas covalent compounds are formed between non-metals.
