Cotyledons mainly refers that if u can get two seeds from seed ( physically ) .

For example :-

Take one leguminous seed like as seed of gram . Now , if you will remove the outer covering of seed then u will find that the seeds are divided into halves .
It refers that seed is dicotyledon . Mainly all leguminous plant is dicotyledon .

Now take seed of paddy . Remove its colour also . Can u get two halves of one seed of rice ? No . So they are monocotyledons . Mainly cereals are monocotyledons .

You can check in your house , this will give you better idea !!

thanks :)

Answer:

cotyledon

A cotyledon is a significant part of the embryo within the seed of a plant, and is defined as "the embryonic leaf in seed-bearing plants, one or more of which are the first to appear from a germinating seed." The number of cotyledons present is one characteristic used by botanists to classify the flowering plants.

Function of cotyledons

Cotyledons are the part of the seeds that are often referred to as seed leaves or first leaves of the seedling. Cotyledon is the seed leaf within the embryo of a seed. This is because they supply food to the baby plant coming out during the seed germination.
