A cryptogam (scientific name Cryptogamae) is a plant (in the wide sense of the word) that reproduces by spores, without flowers or seeds.

Phanerogams includes higher plants that bear flowers and seeds.

They contain an embryo  along with stored food which serves for the initial growth of the embryo during germination.
