Dams also known as multipurpose river valley projects are barriers to the flow of river water.

Advantages of dams are as follows..

Number one... dams are used as storage reservoirs which stores water temporarily and can be used during dry seasons or during any natural disaster like drought..

Number 2 dams are constructed for generating electricity from water which is also known as hydroelectricity.

Number 3 dams also used for fishing and fish breeding..

Number 4 dams also serves as a best tourist spots..

Number 5. dams supplied the stored water to the agricultural lands for irrigation..

Disadvantages of dams are as follows

Number 1..Nowadays dams are not successful in preventing the flood water.

Number 2 many peoples are displaced from their houses due to construction of dam.

Number 3 earthquakes and other natural disasters are occurring because of dams..

Number 4... dams also cause water pollution because near the surface of the dams large amount of sediment deposit which causes water to pollute.

Number 5 dams also disturb the natural flow of water and it also causes problem for aquatic animals like fishes .

  • Displacement of peoples on large scale.

  • Deforestation.

  • Poor habitats for the rivers aquatic life.

  • It disturbs the ecosystem of adjoining areas.

  • Natural flow of rivers is affected.

  • Building of large dams can cause serious geological damage.
