Decomposers are organisms that break down dead or decaying organisms, and in doing so,they carry out the natural process of decomposition. Like herbivores and predators, decomposers are heterotrophic, meaning that they use organic substrates to get their energy, carbon and nutrients for growth and development.

decomposers are organisms which feed on the dead matter they break them into simpler substances which helps in keeping the place clean 
they play a very important role in the food chain they reduce the possibilities of accumulating the dead matter as they feed on the , they also make the soil fertile, rich in nitrogen
