DENTAL CARIRIES IS THE SCIENTIFIC TERM FOR TOOTH DECAY OR CAVITIES.

▶They're caused by specific types of bacteria

▶Different types of bacteria normally live in the human mouth.

They produce acid that destroys the tooth's enamel and the layer under it, the dentin.

▶When you eat certain foods, the bacteria on your teeth breaks them down and produces acids that have the ability to seriously damages the enamel or the hard tissues of your tooth.

HARMFUL EFFECTS:

➡At first your tooth may be sensitive and you may avoid eating certain foods which would affect your NUTRITION.

➡Left untreated the decay can cause PAIN in the tooth leading to a LOSS OF CONCENTRATION and loss of sleep at night which can affect your performance at work and at school.

➡ The decay can also cause the tooth to abscess leading to an INFECTION.

The infection can spread throughout your body causing flu like symptoms.

In rare cases, the infection can spread to the brain causing death.
