\bold{\boxed{\large{\boxed{\orange{\small{\boxed{\large{\red{\bold{\:ANSWER}}}}}}}}}}

→ On the basis of magnetic properties , magnetic substances have been classified into three categories.

Given below,

1). Diamagnetic substances

2). Paramagnetic substances

3). Ferromagnetic substances

\rule{200}{4}

\Large\bold\star\underline{\underline\textbf{Diamagnetic substances\:}}

→ Diamagnetic substances are those in which the individual atoms

/molecules/ions do not possess any net magnetic moment of their own.

» For example- bismuth,antimony, copper, mercury, water, air, etc. are diamagnetic substances.

» When a diamagnetic substance is suspended in uniform magnetic field, it comes to rest with its longest axis perpendicular to magnetic field.

» The lines of force do not pass through diamagnetic substance. Hence the permeability of diamagnetic substance is always less than one but never negative.

\rule{200}{4}

\Large\bold\star\underline{\underline\textbf{Paramagnetic substances\:}}

→ Paramagnetic substances are those in which each individual atom/molecule/ion has a net non-zero magnetic moment of its own.

» For example, aluminium, platinum,

nickel, oxygen etc. are all paramagnetic substances.

» When a paramagnetic substance is suspended in uniform magnetic field, it comes to rest with its longest axis parallel to the field.

» When a paramagnetic substance is placed in a magnetic field, the lines of force do pass through paramagnetic Substance. Hence permeability of paramagnetic substance is always greater than one.

\rule{200}{4}

\Large\bold\star\underline{\underline\textbf{Ferromagnetic substances\:}}

→ Ferromagnetic substances are those in which each individual (atom/molecule/ion) has a non-zero magnetic moment. Also the value of magnetic moment of fertemagnetic substance is larger than that of paramagnetic substance.

» The ferromagnetic materials exhibit the properties of paramagnetic substances to a much greater degree.

» For example, iron, nickel, cobalt etc. are ferromagnetic materials.

Hope it helped u.

\bf\large\underline\red{Answer:-}

\bf\large\underline\purple{Definations:-}

Diamagnetism, para-magnetism and ferromagnetism. ... The material is Diamagnetic if the value of χ is small and negative, Paramagnetic if the value of χ is small and positive and Ferromagnetic if the value is large and positive.
