compounds:carbon dioxide,methane,water etc..

Pure substances are broadly classified into two categories :-


★ Elements :- Elements is the simplest or basic form of a pure substances which cannot be broken into anything simpler than it by physical or chemical methods.

For e.g :-
( Solid elements ) :- Diamond, Graphite, iodine phosphorus, sodium, Pottassium, Gold, Silver, copper.

( liquid elements ) :- Mercury, bromine , Gallium, cesium.

( Gaseous elements ) :- Hydrogen, Oxygen, Nitrogen, Fluorine, chlorine, Neon, Argon, Krypton, xenon , helium.



★ Compunds :- A pure substances containing two or more elements which are combined together in a fixed proportion by mass.

For eg :-
( Inorganic Compounds ) :- Common salt, Baking soda, ammonia, carbon dioxide, sulphric acid etc.

( Organic Compounds ) :- Methane, Ethane, propane, Alcohol, Sugar, acetic acid, proteins, fats, oils etc.
