The most common site for a bone marrow biopsy is the large pelvic bone near the hip (posterior iliac crest),1 but a sample may also be taken from the sternum (breastbone), or, in infants, the shin bone (tibia).

Definition of bone marrow:-

Pelvic bone (ileum) - This is the most common site and is easily accessible from the lower back, near the hip. Adults usually have a sample of bone marrow fluid taken from the back of the hip bone (posterior ileum). Anterior iliac crest- Bone marrow can also be taken from the front of the pelvicbone, near the groin.
