There are two types of Endoplasmic reticulum:-
1. Smooth Endoplasmic reticulum
2. Rough Endoplasmic reticulum
There functions are:-
1. It is mainly responsible for the transportation of proteins and other carbohydrates to another organelle, which includes lysosomes, Golgi apparatus, plasma membrane, etc.
2. They play a vital role in the formation of the skeletal framework.
Hope it helps
Thanks..

depending on the presence or absence of ribosome on the surface of ER these are of two types 1.rough ER(ER with ribosome) 2.smoothER(without ribosomes)
functions
1.rough ER is the site of protein synthesis
2.smooth ER takes part in secretion of lipids
3.ER provides increased surface area for metabolic reactions to take place
4.ER provides mechanical support by forming a network in the cytoplasm
5.proteins and lipids synthesized are used in the formation of new cell membrane during cell division through a process called membrane biogenesis.some other proteins and lipids function as enzymes and harmones
