The three types of ‘ground tissues’ are:
i) Parenchyma - They are thin-walled primary cells that are mainly involved in photosynthesis, food storage, tissue regeneration and healing.
ii) Collenchyma - They are thin or thick-walled cells which provide mechanical and structural support to young stems, petioles and roots.
iii) Sclerenchyma - These are dead, lignified cells that provide structural support to plants.
