Types of tumours :

Benign (non cancerous tumours) :

  • They are generally small , localized with a fibrous outer capsule.
  • They Remain confined to their location and do not spread to other parts of the body .
  • They are harmless and cause little damage.
  • They can be removed by simple surgery.
  • Ex :- uterine fibroids in a female human.

Pre malignant :

  • Also called 'Carcinoma in situ ' in which cells transform into cancerous cells in due course of time .

Malignant (cancerous tumours) :

  • These are harmful and lethal .
  • It is a mass of neoplastic cells .
  • These cells can detach and migrate to other parts of the body where they give rise to secondary tumours. This property is called metastatis .
  • Some neoplasms however do not form solid tumour .
  • Ex :- Leukemia
