Diploid number is the total number of chromosomes present in a cell. In humans, it is 2n = 46. Diploid somatic cells undergo mitosis to maintain the chromosomal number.

Haploid number is n. It has half the chromosomes or chromsomal pairs. In humans, n = 23.
