Doab is a term used in South Asia for the tract of land lying between two confluent rivers. It is similar to an interfluve.

Bhangar is the largest part of the northern plain and is composed of the oldest alluvial soil.

In the west, the northern plains have the Indus river system, and in the east, the Ganga Brahmaputra river system. Bhabar,Terai,Bhangar and Khadar are divided into four regions in the Northern Plains.
