Duns are longitudnal valleys formed by the collision of Eurasian and Indian plate.

They are formed between Lesser Himalayas and Shivaliks.

The valleys are rich in alluvium brought down by the rivers in Himalayas.

These valleys are also ecologically rich in bird species.

Example- Dehradun in Uttarakhand. and Patli Dun in Himachal Pradesh.
