When a good electrical conductor is exposed to a changing magnetic field, a current is induced in the metal, commonly called an Eddy Current. Eddy currents can produce significant drag, called magnetic damping, on the motion involved. Eddy currents are named so because the current looks like eddies or whirlpools.
